Vinted FAQ’s and What Vinted Is Really Like for a seller
Vinted has become a popular app to sell on for many years and has grown in popularity. I ventured onto Vinted in 2023 to clear some of my wardrobes that had accidentally (on purpose) expanded due to me purchasing a little too many clothes because I needed to revamp my style.
To be able to repurpose items people liked was wonderful, either the clothes weren’t my style, didn’t fit anymore, and someone else could enjoy them, I felt it was more eco-friendly, and it was great that the shipping wasn’t from the seller’s side and we could print out labels.
Whether you want to earn some extra money for Christmas, use the money for a holiday, or simply clear your wardrobe. It felt like a great app for ease.
Did you know Vinted has been around since 2008? Yep, it was founded in 2008. Another fun fact according to Business Of Apps: Vinted VS Depop “Vinted has outsold Depop in every year since 2019, and had over four times its competitor’s revenue in 2022 at €370.2 million compared to Depop’s €91.2 million.”
How does Vinted work?
Vinted is a free sign up platform where you can buy and sell a variety of items, including clothes, accessories, shoes, and more.
As the seller, you can list your item by taking photographs of the item. You can list the price you want for your item or buyers can offer you a price.
If you accept their offer, it will then send this to the buyer after the offer has been accepted. However, be aware that even if you accept the offer, the buyer may not purchase the product. They can still pull out of the transaction if they want to, even if you accept their offer.
You can counteroffer if feel the offer is too low – people love to try to get a bargain. If you’re willing to sell it low, some people do send lowball offers.
The postage of the item is paid for by the buyer. They’ll choose which service they require and Vinted will provide the seller with a pre-paid label once they’ve paid. You can choose which services you post within your settings. For example, if you didn’t have an inpost locker in your area, you can turn this off as you would not be able to post the item without travelling to your nearest locker.
Once the buyer has received their goods, they’ll be able to mark their item as received if they are happy with the item. Once it has been marked as received Vinted will release the funds and you should be able to withdraw the funds from your sale to your bank account. If there is anything wrong, the buyer will make you aware.
How does Vinted make money?
Vinted charges fees to the buyer instead of the seller.
There are no fees for sellers, buyers have to pay a ‘Buyer Protection Fee’ and a percentage (between 3% and 8%) of the items listed price to Vinted with each purchase.
This means it’s free for you to sell and you get to keep 100% of the profit!

What Can You Sell On Vinted?
Vinted’s policy states you’re able to sell a whole range of things, including the following:
Women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, footwear, and accessories.
Children’s toys, furniture, and childcare equipment.
New cosmetics, beauty products, and beauty gadgets.
Tech accessories such as headphones, smart watches, phone cases, and similar items.
Homeware such as textiles, tableware, and home accessories.
Entertainment items such as video games, consoles and accessories, books, games, puzzles, and music and video.
Pet care items such as clothing, accessories, bedding, travel accessories, and toys.
Is Vinted safe?
In general, Vinted is safe. Remember that it will have the same risks as any other online marketplace. If you’re a seller on the app, make sure that you list your item as accurately as possible. This means taking photos of your item from every angle, labels, and if there are any faults with the item.
Doing this should help your buyers to see exactly the item they are getting and in which condition.
How to list an item on Vinted
To list an item, you’ll need to create an account. Once this has been completed, go to the ‘Sell’ button at the bottom of the screen and click through. You can list up to 20 photos of your item, which is fantastic in terms of showing all angles.
Take your photos in good lighting or background, if you wish to iron the clothing pieces you can – this helps your items to stand out. You upload these onto Vinted.You then create your listing with a title and description. Make sure it contains all of the relevant information a buyer will need when they’re looking at the item: size, colour, brand, faults, etc.
Remember to categorise your item and add the brand too, as this will help buyers find your item. Once you’ve entered all of this information, the app will go through listings similar to the information you’ve supplied. When it comes to setting a price for your item, this will let you see what similar items are listed for. You do not have the choose their price if you do not wish to. You can set your own. We do suggest listing your item for a slightly higher price than you want as many people offer lower than the price on Vinted.
If a buyer can haggle and receive that item for less, they win and you win if it sells faster and they have a deal.
Is Wardrobe Spotlight worth it? Is Bumped Worth It On Vinted?
Vinted has some paid features within the app which include the Wardrobe Spotlight and Bumped. Wardrobe Spotlight lasts for a consecutive seven-day period and costs £6.95.
You must have 5 items for sale already listed. Once applied to your account, your listed items will be promoted in a separate section and appear in other users’ catalogue search results.
When Wardrobe Spotlight is activated Vinted pushes your clothing to more people into their algorithm, makes it higher on the pages, and in return, you hope you make some more sales to cover the £6.95 for the week!
Vinted also provides you with stats, showing you how many people saw your items and interacted with them.
Bumped: The price can vary on bumped, but usually it is a couple of pounds. You pick a particular item or items you wish to bump up to the top of the page. This is sometimes worth it if you have a specific item you wish to sell.
Who Pays For The Shipping On Vinted?
The beauty of Vinted is the buyer pays for the shipping!
There are many postage methods directly through the Vinted app, the buyer can select and pay for a label from Royal Mail, Evri, Yodel, InPost, or UPS. All you have to do is check for a nearby drop-off point.
If you don’t have one or more of those drop-off points nearby, you can make them unavailable to your buyers by going to your profile, heading to the settings, and then clicking on ‘postage’. You can choose whether you wish to print the label at home or you’re able to scan the QR code at your nearest points and have the label printed there.
We suggest using the ‘custom shipping’ option if you want to send items via Royal Mail. You’ll be able to enter the price of postage on your listing and the buyer will pay for this when they buy your item. It’s then your responsibility to print the label and keep the receipt to send the buyer proof of postage.
If you use Royal Mail as your primary postage option, use their Click & Drop service online to save on postage costs (compared to the prices you pay at the Post Office).
Can you return items on Vinted?
There are some instances when you can get a return from Vinted If the buyer doesn’t believe the item is as it was described, looks different from the pictures, or is damaged or faulty they’ll have up to two days to report an issue.
Vinted will then open an inquiry and investigate the issue. They’ll start by looking at the evidence provided by the buyer and will compare this to the item listing made by the seller, to check for discrepancies between the photos.If the item was damaged during delivery, the buyer should provide photos of the outer parcel damage and Vinted will assist with the issue.
When can you not get a refund from vented?
If the item doesn’t fit or they simply don’t like it there’s no obligation to take it back as the seller.
If the seller decides not to accept a return, the buyer can always re-list the item on Vinted themselves and try to sell it to someone else!
How many countries is Vinted available in?
Vinted is available in 20 countries and has plans to expand into Finland in 2023.
How many items are available on Vinted?
Vinted reports that it has over 800 million items listed on its marketplace.
What Happens When I’m On Holiday If I get a sale on Vinted?
Depending on how long you are away you do have the option to put your shop on ‘holiday mode’ in the Vinted app available on Apple and Google Play. This means nobody can purchase from your shop whilst you are away.
However, if you will be back in a short time you could message the buyer to check they don’t need it for a certain date, and explain you are away, but will have it posted when you get back. Vinted gives you up to 4 days to retrieve the label and the timer then starts to post it.
Can You Earn Money On Vinted? The Review
The short answer to this is: Yes, you can make money on Vinted. I have personally sold on Vinted myself just to clear my wardrobe. However, depending on what items you’ve listed, what condition, and how long you’re willing to wait for the sale varies.
Sometimes, you’ll be selling items very quickly, some won’t move for months. This is something to bear in mind. Some people are making a full-time wage equivalent to this, but it is a full-time job also.
You can start to sell on Vinted today if you want to do so. Surely, you have something within your home you want to sell. You might see videos online telling you to become a reseller online, or how they’re living their best lifestyle.
When I first started on Vinted I had very quick sales of certain items. This made me feel a buzz, as I would finally start to clear some of the clothing that had been building up in my wardrobes. However, I soon saw the overwhelming choice I had made.
In total, I think I had over 300 listings roughly. It was time-consuming as I had to take photographs of the clothing, list the title, write the description (I did have a standard copy and paste note I would use and then edit where I needed to), and then start again.
As sales began flooding in, so did having to pack them, and take them to the drop-off points. The difficulty at times with the drop-off points varied: no machine working, the lockers were full, or I had to walk to several different locations with different parcels.
I had to start taking parcels before and after work. It was starting to become exhausting and far too active.
My items weren’t all expensive items. So, when I’d sold £3 worth of clothing, but had to walk to 3 different shops – the time spent was over 45 minutes due to the location – it didn’t equate to neutral earnings.This is the reality that some days you could be earning £3 for well over an hour of work. If you calculate the time it takes to photograph, list, package, and then go to the locations.
I decided to try and organize myself rather than keep the clothes in boxes. I created an inventory, pre-packed them into parcels (also asked a friend if he would come and help me, and put them into the boxes again.
My room was becoming flooded with parcels.
Although it was more organized, it had become a second job, but in a very active way.
Your days will be spent listing, going to different locations for the drop-offs, or having to put your shop on holiday mode. It became like a part-time warehouse job.
I’d given myself one year to clear my clothing and items and then I’d donate them. I did want to clear my excess clothing, but I didn’t want for it to accumulate into a part-time job. That wasn’t on the cards.
My honest review and conclusion of Vinted is it’s a very active hustle and can easily become a job. If you are looking to travel the world, take multiple holidays, or be away from home this wouldn’t be something I would advise, unless you give yourself a week so or to clear your home, and a deadline.
I no longer sell on the app as it’s not something I want to integrate into my lifestyle. After one year, for my type of lifestyle, it wasn’t worth it, but I’m glad I cleared some of my clothes.
Would I recommend it as an income method? No, not as an income method. Use Vinted to clear your items from your home, but don’t do it all at once like I did.
