Explore Hotel Amenities

When you find yourself bored at a hotel, it is worth mentioning that there are many amenities to explore.

A favored choice for many is to explore the hotel’s spa or pool facilities. Not only does this offer a fantastic opportunity to unwind and de-stress, but it also serves as a revitalizing escape from the everyday monotony.

Additionally, numerous hotels feature dedicated lounges which can provide an excellent avenue to pass the time, have a wander through the halls, explore the grounds.

Consider that certain hotels might provide distinctive features like rooftop bars or cinemas. It’s advisable to inquire with the hotel staff regarding any unadvertised activities or facilities that may enhance your stay.

Regrettably, not every hotel boasts a plethora of amenities, but it’s prudent to review the hotel’s website prior to booking to confirm the availability of activities and amenities aligning with your preferences.

Keep in mind that renowned hotel chains, such as Marriott and Hilton, consistently offer an extensive array of amenities across their properties.

Room Service Roulette

When staying at a hotel and you don’t know what to do, try out some food!

  • Indulging in room service presents a convenient and leisurely option to explore local culinary delights right from the cozy confines of your room. Numerous hotels feature a diverse array of regional delicacies and specialties within their room service menus, making it worthwhile to peruse the available options.
  • Try a dish you’ve never tried before! Embark on a culinary adventure by ordering a dish you’ve never tried before. Allow the element of surprise to tickle your taste buds and indulge in a gastronomic journey without leaving the comfort of your room. Who knows, you might discover a new favourite dish!

Watch Movies

If you find yourself bored at a hotel, one great way to pass the time is by watching movies. Here are some options to consider:

  • Movie Marathon Madness: Transform your hotel room into a cozy cinema by arranging a movie marathon. Pick a theme – whether it’s classic comedies, action-packed blockbusters, or a film series. Don’t forget the popcorn and snacks for the ultimate cinematic experience.
  • Catch up on your favourite shows: Numerous hotels now provide high-speed internet, enabling you to effortlessly stream your preferred shows and movies via platforms such as Netflix or Hulu. Remember to have your login credentials handy!
  • Explore the hotel’s movie rental service: If streaming isn’t feasible, inquire about the hotel’s movie rental options. Many establishments offer in-room movies that you can pay for and enjoy on your television. Be mindful, though, as these rentals may come with a higher price tag.
  • Participate in a hotel-hosted movie screening: Certain hotels arrange special movie screenings for their guests.

Read Books

When staying at a hotel, it is worth mentioning that there are several things one can do to ward off boredom. One of the simplest yet most effective ways to pass the time is by reading books. Here are a few ideas:

  • See if the Hotel has a library, books or any newspapers: Many hotels provide a library or a selection of books/newspapers for guests to borrow during their stay. This presents an excellent opportunity to discover new authors or delve into genres you might not have explored before.
  • Read The Random Hotel Books/Info Booklets: Usually, hotels will leave information around the room to let you know any numbers to call, rules for the towels, room service menu, etc. Familiarise yourself with these and read them whilst you’re bored. This is one of my most enjoyable things to do is read random info and menus.

Exercise

You may fancy getting a little active whilst in your hotel room. Try out some of these fitness activities you can do in your hotel whilst bored.

  • Fitness Fiesta: Turn your hotel room into a mini gym. Use the space to practice yoga, do bodyweight exercises, or even follow a workout routine from your favorite fitness app. Staying active not only beats boredom but also helps you stay energized during your trip.
  • Hotel Gym? Depending what type of hotel you’ve booked, it could have a gym. You may want to pop into the gym to do some cardio, or weight lifting. You can decide on your pace and afterwards you’re not too far from your room. Some hotels even have classes that you can partake in.
  • Another way is to take a walk. Take a stroll around the hotel’s grounds or the surrounding area. You could go for a jog/run, if that’s more your pace. Be sure to stay safe and aware of your surroundings.

Take a Nap

If you’re feeling a bit restless during your hotel stay, indulging in a nap can prove to be a rejuvenating remedy.

It’s important to highlight that adequate sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and well-being. As per the National Sleep Foundation, adults should strive for 7-9 hours of sleep each night. If you’ve been falling short of this recommendation, a nap can serve as a beneficial way to make up for lost sleep.

  • Recharge in the comfort of your hotel room: Utilize your hotel room as the ideal space for a rejuvenating nap. Set an alarm to ensure you wake up on time and don’t miss any scheduled plans.
  • Opt for a brief power nap: Boost your energy with a quick power nap. It’s important to note that a power nap should not exceed 20-30 minutes to prevent waking up feeling groggy.
  • Explore guided meditation: If falling asleep proves challenging, consider trying guided meditation to relax both your mind and body. Numerous apps and websites offer free guided meditation sessions.
  • Turn your hotel room into a tranquil sanctuary. Play some calming music, close the blinds, sink into your pillow, relax your mind and rejuvenate your spirit.
  • Have some alone time: before your nap you can have some alone time with yourself to boost endorphins and it’s a wonderful pre nap activity.

Virtual Tourist

You don’t have to leave your hotel for this one, but you can explore the destination and surroundings.

  • Explore the city from the comfort of your hotel room by taking virtual tours online: Many museums, landmarks, and attractions offer virtual experiences that allow you to travel without stepping outside. Immerse yourself in the destination’s culture and history without leaving your cozy haven.
  • Youtube the destination: See what videos have been made and explore via the videos on Youtube. Youtube is amazing for exploring walking tours online, travel vloggers, facts about the cities, and some hidden gem reviews!
  • Tiktok the destination: Tiktok has a more realistic POV and very detailed reviews from people. They usually don’t spend a lot of time editing their videos, so it’s more realistic and in the now than other platforms. People will go live, they will upload their travel videos raw, and give reviews honestly.

Spa Day

If your hotel has a spa, why not treat yourself to a treatment. Maybe a nice facial, you want to work out some of the knots in your shoulders, or simply want a new colour for your nails.

  • Book A Spa Treatment: Book yourself a treatment in the spa and make use of the spa facilities and a treat. Why not try a new treatment you’ve never had?

Take A Bath

Give yourself some you time, make those bubbles big, and dip into a bath to soak!

  • Transform your bathroom into a spa retreat. Take a long, luxurious bath, use those hotel-provided toiletries, and pamper yourself with a DIY facial. Create a serene ambiance with soothing music, run it deep, make the bubbles big, and wash away your worries!

Impromptu Photoshoot

You have an entire room to yourself, spare time, and your phone!

  • Transform your hotel room into a photo studio. Experiment with different angles, props, and outfits to create your own mini photoshoot. Capture the moments and memories of your trip in a unique and creative way.

Organise Your Phone

If it’s been a while since you’ve organised or cleared your phone, you’ve got some time to do the little tasks.

  • Clear emails: It’s time to get rid of the junk folder emails, scroll through and delete emails you no longer need.
  • Organise your photo’s/videos: I bet if you’re already agreeing to the above, you have some photo’s or videos you keep promising yourself you will sort out. Now is the time. Do a few at a time and it will help. If you need to delete any photo’s think of the storage it’ll clear for your next captures!

Try Out The Hotel Bar

Have a taste of the bar and explore through your tastebuds.

  • Drink Tasting: Maybe try a new cocktail, a whisky you haven’t sampled or a undiscovered glass of wine. Personally, I like an old Fashioned or a Manhattan. I’m a whisky woman!
  • Relax with your favourite drink. There’s no right or wrong. Alcohol or no alcohol, stirred or shaken, the choices are yours.

What else do you do when you’re bored at a hotel? I tried to keep it away from the obvious scrolling social media and defaulting back to working, in case it’s more of a break away. I know my side hustle people don’t know how to take a day off sometimes, which is why hotel breaks can be vital!

Hotel breaks and spa breaks give you the reason to switch off, shut down, and lock yourself away. You may be bored, but when you think of the rest, freedom, and recovery you can have over night, you’ll soon be thankful for the ‘boredom’.
