Venice Acess Fee Guide 2024: Thinking Of Going To Venice for The Day? USEFUL INFORMATION
Venice Guide – Things You Need To Know About Venice
Commencing in spring 2024, the Venice Access Fee will make an appearance. Venice will implement a reservation system and an entrance fee for day-trippers. Individuals not lodging in Venice overnight (and residing outside the Veneto region) will be required to make online bookings and remit a €5 fee during peak tourism periods throughout the year. It is important to note that those already staying overnight in Venice are subject to a separate tourist tax.
The fee will be applicable on 29 specific days, spanning from April to July – excluding the Festa della Repubblica weekend (1st-2nd June) – I’ve listed the exact dates below.
The day-tripper Venice Access Fee will exclusively be enforced during peak hours, from 8:30am to 4pm.
This initiative seeks to manage the influx of visitors to Venice more efficiently, safeguarding the city’s distinctive heritage and discouraging transient tourism practices, known as ‘hit-and-run’ tourism.
On the website: the City of Venice there are FAQs on the Venice Access Fee that explain everything you need to know before arriving about the Venice Access Fee.

WHO HAS TO PAY TO ENTER VENICE?
All visitors aged 14 and above, who do not opt for an overnight stay on applicable dates and are not residents of the Veneto region, are required to pre-book their visit and make an advance payment of the €5 fee.
How To Pay The Venice Access Fee?
To facilitate the entry process, visitors must register on the dedicated online platform http://cda.ve.it, scheduled for launch on January 16, and pay directly the Venice access fee
Following the booking, visitors will be issued a QR code serving as proof of fee payment or exemption status. To confirm entry reservation and payment, or to demonstrate exemption, visitors need only present the QR code to authorities at the main access points in Venice.
How does the reservation and entry fee payment process function?
For those intending to explore the Old City of Venice without an overnight stay on the designated trial days in 2024, the visit must be booked using the dedicated computer application. With the exception of circumstances falling under the exclusion and exemption criteria outlined in the Regulations, visitors are required to make the corresponding Venice access fee payment.
The booking process involves entering the visitor’s first and last name into the form available at http://cda.ve.it or within the dedicated application. Upon successful registration, individuals can opt to either download the voucher containing the QR code and booking code or receive an email at the provided address confirming the booking.

Oasis Travel InsuranceExclusions And Exemptions
Individuals who require occasional access to the Old City for work-related purposes, as well as students participating in study trips or visits, will not be subjected to the Venice Access fee. However, they must utilize the web-app to book their visit, specifying the dates of their intended city visit, especially if they align with alert days. The following individuals are exempt from the fee and must register on the platform to obtain an extended QR Code:
- Students, including commuters, enrolled in schools with a stable executive office located in the Old City.
- Workers, employees, and self-employed individuals, including commuters, with a stable executive office (temporary or permanent) in the Old City.
For day visits to Venice on days when the fee is applicable, the following groups must make a reservation (though they are exempt from the Entry Fee):
- Tourists residing in the Municipality of Venice, temporary residents, Veneto residents, children under 14, individuals with certified disabilities and their accompanying persons, those requiring medical examinations or therapies, companions or visitors of hospitalized patients, athletes participating in CONI sporting events in the Old City, tenants, spouses, and first- to third-removed relatives, along with individuals visiting residents of the Old City (this list is not exhaustive; a comprehensive list is available under Article 5 of the Regulation).
What Happens If You Do Not Pay The Venice Access Fee?
FINES
The Municipal Administration reserves the right to conduct inspections, checks, and on-site visits at the primary entry points to the City, employing authorized personnel for this purpose.
Violations may incur fines ranging from 50 to 300 euros, with an additional charge corresponding to the entry fee. Moreover, individuals providing false declarations or engaging in document falsification, as outlined in the Regulation, may be subject to reporting under the Italian Criminal Code and relevant laws pertaining to the matter.
- I don’t have internet, how can I book and/or pay the access fee?
Only for exceptional cases will payment points be available at Piazzale Roma and the Venice-Santa Lucia Station square. However, this is an exceptional case where you may not have realise before departing for Venice. Please try to find access to the internet to make the payment beforehand, if possible.
What Is the Venice Entry Fee?
To encourage sustainable and responsible tourism, as well as the implementation of positive tourism practices, the City Administration has established an entry fee for accessing the Old City of the Municipality of Venice and other smaller islands within the lagoon.
This fee is established under national legislation (art. 4 paragraph 3-bis of Legislative Decree 23/2011, Law 145/2018, Law 122/2010).The application of the fee implements the regulation of tourist flows, and its proceeds are used to finance tourism-related interventions, including those for the maintenance, enjoyment and rehabilitation of local cultural and environmental heritage and related local public facilities.
