The Alchemist New York Street, The Alchemist Spinningfields, And The Alchemist Media City – Lets Talk About Them!

The Alchemist is a bar I’ve frequented for years at its different locations, but today is Manchester’s turn for The Alchemist bars in Manchester! I try out The Alchemist New York Street, The Alchemist Spinningfields, and The Alchemist Media City. Each venue offers something different for Manchester and Salford.

First is The Alchemist on New York Street. I’d say this is a smaller venue for The Alchemist, but one I hold fond memories within – I just wish they’d change back the outside furniture, it was much nicer with the wicker in the summer and winter vs the metal, but they’re forever changing, so we’ll see! The interior is a signature style of The Alchemist, as well as their cocktails, it feels more swanky than other bars, perfect for a quick drink or two, and the bar is an island on the right as you walk in, with the restaurant on the left.

The Red Dead Zombie comes with a syringe of alcohol which you can either shot or shot into the drink – I’ve done both versions!

The Colour Changing One comes with two beakers and you pour them in to create a reaction in your cocktail! Who doesn’t love some chemistry with their cocktail?! The Alchemist makes science fun!

The Alchemist Spinningfields is based in the area of Manchester we refer to as Spinningfields, and is one of the largest of the two Alchemist’s in the city centre.

They have a large outdoor terrace space, the bar has become more narrow with the refurbishment, but the signature style still remains. This Alchemist is perfect for a date night in Manchester, a few drinks before dinner, or even popping in for a quick juice – of course I had a smoky old fashioned! I’ve also tried their hot chocolate in the Alchemist and it was lovely, and the food here. That was before I started blogging, reviewing, and documenting. I went for dinner on New Years Eve one night as I wanted a New Years where it went for deluxe to dive – it was a theme. I may write an blog post about it in the personal stories, and I’ll update it here when I do.

Anyway, the Alchemist in Spinningfields is definitely an impressive cocktail bar if you’re wanting to have cocktails with some pizzazz compared to other cocktail bars, The Alchemist feels worth it for the value you receive. There’s many Manchester cocktails bars, but some are underwhelming for what you receive in the glass for the price. Not at The Alchemist, you’ll feel like you actually received a cocktail here!

The Alchemist Media City

Alchemist Media City, Salford is the third venue of the Alchemist located in Salford, Greater Manchester, which is a tram ride away from Manchester, but you can also make it a things to do in Manchester, as Media city is filled with a variety of things to do! From theatre shows at the Lowry, walking the waterfront, checking out the restaurants in media city, and the new bars!

The Media City Alchemist has a lovely terrace with a waterside view so it’s perfect for summer drinks with a waterside view! You’ll find it 5 minutes away from getting off the tram, just walk straight ahead and you’ll see a curved building – that’s the alchemist!

As you can see from the picture above this was a day drink in the summer picture, and I’d had a few times out already, but us mancs love the sun! When we get it, we get out and do an activity!

So all 3 venues are different and offer you something!

New York Street – smaller bar of the venues, but great when it’s not packed! The restaurant is still large enough for a great meal! So perfect if you want to dine in peace. I’ve seen dates happen here, and business lunches – so it’s versatile!

Spinningfields – If you want a larger venue, in the more bougie part of Manchester, great for date nights and for larger groups!

Media City – Wonderful if you want to explore more parts of Manchester and have a waterside view on the terrace!

What makes The Alchemist Manchester stand out is the experience as much as the drinks themselves, with theatrical serves, unusual presentation and cocktails designed to create a little bit of a talking point around the table.

From signature favourites such as The Colour Changing One (or my favourite the smoky old fashioned), to larger sharing cocktails and creative seasonal serves, this is somewhere that feels particularly suited to a Manchester night out. Whether, you’re meeting friends, planning a date night, starting an evening in the city centre or simply looking for somewhere different to have a drink. The Spinningfields location also makes it an easy stop when exploring Manchester city centre, with plenty of restaurants, bars and things to do nearby.

For anyone searching for the best cocktail bars in Manchester, bars in Manchester city centre, The Alchemist Manchester reviews or somewhere memorable for drinks in Manchester, The Alchemist is worth having on your list. It is more than somewhere to simply order a cocktail, with the venue changing throughout the day from brunch and daytime dining into a livelier evening bar, followed by late-night drinks at selected times.

Visiting Manchester over the weekend and looking for some cocktails bars in Manchester? Weekend visitors can also find The Alchemist’s current bottomless brunch experience (£49.95pp, which is a bargain for The Alchemist cocktails), with brunch dishes and cocktails available as part of its weekend packages, while late-night drinks and pre-bookable tables make it an option for a longer Manchester night out.

Whether you’re visiting Manchester for a weekend, looking for somewhere to go after shopping, planning a birthday, girls’ night, date night or simply searching for good cocktail bars near Manchester city centre, I’d say The Alchemist is particularly worth considering if you want your drinks to be part of the experience rather than just something you order at the bar.

Manchester is one of those cities where finding a great bar is rarely difficult, but finding the right bar for your night can be a little more challenging!

As a travel blogger exploring places across the UK, Europe and further afield, I love discovering the bars that are genuinely worth adding to an itinerary, whether that means finding somewhere for cocktails, a relaxed drink with friends, a date night, a girls’ night out, live music, a late-night drink or somewhere new to visit at the weekend. Whether you’re a local searching for the best bars to visit in Manchester, visiting for a weekend or planning a Manchester city break, this is where I’ll be sharing the places I discover along the way.

If you’re searching for happy hour in Manchester, the best happy hour deals in Manchester, weekend happy hour in Manchester or Manchester bars with drinks deals, you’re in the right place. From early-evening cocktail offers and discounted drinks to two-for-one deals, weekend promotions, after-work drinks and bar-specific happy hours, there are plenty of ways to find good drinks without choosing somewhere simply because it happens to be cheap.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for the best happy hours in Manchester, best weekend happy hours in Manchester, cheap drinks in Manchester city centre, best weekend drinks deals in Manchester and places where the offer, atmosphere and overall experience are actually worth your time. That includes looking at where to find happy hour in Manchester, where to go for drinks in Manchester, the best places to drink in Manchester at the weekend, and which Manchester bars are worth considering for a night out.

I’ll also be exploring the city’s wider nightlife, from Manchester bars for a night out and best bars for a date in Manchester to best bars for a girls’ night out in Manchester, best bars in Manchester for tourists and the best things to do in Manchester at night. Offers, prices and opening times can change, so I’ll always aim to give you useful, experience-led information rather than simply copying a venue’s description. If you’re looking for a Manchester nightlife guide, planning a weekend in the city or simply wondering where to have your next drink, you’ll find honest bar reviews, local recommendations and Manchester drinking guides here.
